Music Magazine Homework

The music magazine I purchased was XXL it is a music magazine that mainly focuses on RnB music and new artistes coming out with their new albums. The article that interested me most was "Dreamin" the article was written about J-Cole a young artist that has just released his first album that he worked really hard on it took him two years to just develop his music. J-Cole is known for his rapping he has featured in Jay Z's song A Star is Born and remixed Beyonce's song Party that was originally recorded with Andre 3000 he even has his own single "Workout".

This article expresses J-Coles feelings towards certain subjects like his relationship with his father and mother and how he was treated in school because his mum is white and his dad is black. He explains his dreams and ambitions and how he plans to fulfil them now and in future he also is thankful for his support and his success. Dreamin is a Question and Answer type of article it attracts readers who want an insight on celebrities lives and want to know what their thinking and their frame of mind and is opinion on certain subjects.

Evaluation

I started the prelim task and at the start I had no idea how to use photo shop and but after a class with Mr V I had a better I idea on how to use photo shop and as time progressed I learnt more about photo shop. For the first apart of my Prelim I needed to take photographs of the sixth form students and of the sixth form itself for either the front cover of my magazine or the contents page. After taking the photographs I had to upload them onto the computer and choose which ones I was going to use. I chose a picture of Zehra then later changed it to Mosene, for my contents page I used a photo of Maria holding a book in her hands and reading her notes. I had to edit the photos as well as put them onto photo shop and edit them, then I had to pick a pick a font to match the pictures colours for that I had to look at the colour wheel.

My magazine cover at first was very basic but after changing a few things including the picture and the font making it brighter and better. the problems I faced while doing the Prelim was photo shop I have never had to work with photo shop on a this kind of level. I think my strengths with this project was editing my front cover also taking the photographs for the cover and contents page. In future now I think I'd be better at using photo shop than I was this time, also I need to work on my editing skills because I still need to know more things about colours like learn the colour wheel.

Knowing my strengths and weaknesses in media I am now more focused on changing them.

Prelim Work 4/10/11

I am doing my prelim work which is making a magazine front cover and contents page, the magazine has to be based on sixth form life. I first took photos of people around Norbury Manor and of the sixthform itself. After uploading them I chose a photo of Zehra and Bilal as my front cover I editied it and added text to it. I showed it to my teacher and recieved some helpful critisism, I decided to start again and change everything but keep the text I added earlier. I took photos of Mosene instead and used him ad my front cover I used blue and orange as my font colours because orange stood out.

Lesson 19/9/11

This was the lesson I learnt about the different types of shots you could do with a camera and it was also my frst lesson in the media class.  I learnt that different magazines use different kind of shots and angles readers. Some magazines use eye level to interact with the reader on a personal level or from a higher angle or maybe even a lower angle.

Prelim Work

Here are some of the Pictures we took as a group we took 3, The top one is of a year 13 art student and the bottem one is GCSE art work that was done last year by he year 11s it was getting put up on display.

Group Work 19/9/11

We were put into groups of fours and given a brief  in my group we had to take photos to encourage art teachers to work at Norbury Manor Sixth Form. We worked well as a group and agreed on three pictures that we felt looked encouraging to art teachers. We presented them in front of the class a few days after we took them and evaluated them and edited them.

For my magazine "Our Life" front cover Haleemah Islam will be standing in front of the office, this will be a medium shot. For my contents page I will take shots of Jamal and Hafsa for my contents page these will be long shots and the backgrounds would be different for both, the objects they will be holding will be different aswell they may be interacting with other students.
